Referring for Medicine-Assisted Therapy

Conscious Mind Centre accepts referrals and clinician enquiries for our Medicine-Assisted Therapy program.

Our program is psychologist-led and delivered within an approved clinical protocol. All treatment and assessment is overseen by our Authorised Prescriber psychiatrist and clinical psychology team.

Medicine-Assisted Therapy is not appropriate for every patient. Referral begins a comprehensive assessment and screening process, and does not guarantee acceptance into treatment.

How to Refer

Please send referrals to:

Email: admin@consciousmindcentre.com.au
Medical Objects: Conscious Mind Centre
Phone: (07) 5616 2119

Once received, our team will contact the patient directly regarding availability, fees and next steps.

Who can be referred?

Our program is currently for adults (18+ yrs) who have been diagnosed with either:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD)

Patients must have an established diagnosis and evidence of previous treatment that has not provided an adequate response. The patient must not have any personal or family history of psychotic disorders including schizophrenia, bipolar, or psychosis.

We accept referrals and enquiries from:

  • GPs
  • Psychiatrists
  • Enquires from psychologists and other treating health professionals are welcomed

Patients can also contact us directly; however, formal referrals are required to progress to assessment and screening.

What should I include in the referral?

A referral letter including the following information, where available:

  • Mental health diagnosis(es) and relevant history
  • Current symptoms and level of impairment
  • All previous psychological treatment
  • All current and previous psychiatric medications, dose, and date
  • Other treatments previously trialled
  • Current psychiatrist and psychologist details
  • Relevant medical history
  • Substance use history
  • Current risk considerations and previous risk
  • Mental health hospitalisations / admissions or significant episodes of care

There is no need to recreate information already contained in existing psychiatric or psychological reports – these can simply be attached.

Please remain involved in your patient’s care

Medicine-Assisted Therapy is intended to sit within a patient’s broader treatment pathway rather than replace their existing care.

Where possible, we ask that patients remain engaged with their usual psychologist, psychiatrist, and GP while assessment and screening is underway.

Our clinical team can communicate with existing providers, with patient consent, to support continuity of care and appropriate handover following completion of treatment.

What happens after referral?

Once we receive the referral, our team will contact the patient. Where appropriate, the patient then progresses through our formal screening pathway, including psychiatric and psychological assessment.

Final suitability for treatment is determined by the treating team under the approved clinical protocol.

DVA Veteran Referral

We also accept referrals for eligible veterans seeking consideration under DVA’s Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy (PAP) funding pathway.

DVA considers PAP a fourth-line treatment, so applications require clear evidence that multiple established treatments have been adequately trialled without sufficient response.

For DVA referrals, please contact our Administration Team for detailed outline of the required information. You do not need to prepare the DVA funding application, that is completed by our PAP team.

Conscious Mind Centre coordinates the application and supporting documentation in consultation with our Authorised Prescriber psychiatrist.

DVA requires PAP funding requests to be made through the Authorised Provider and supported by evidence of previous treatment failure and the proposed treatment pathway.

DVA funding approval and clinical acceptance into the program are separate processes. Approval of funding does not automatically establish clinical suitability.

Not sure if your patient is suitable?

You are welcome to contact our team before preparing a formal referral.

We can provide general guidance about the referral pathway and information likely to be required. Clinical suitability can only be determined following our formal assessment and screening.
